What Pages Does a Tradie Website Actually Need? (The Full List)

Not "as many as possible" and not five: the exact pages that earn their keep, in priority order, plus the ones that waste your budget.

Do the maths on your own business: four core pages (home, about, contact, proof), plus one page per service you offer, plus one page per suburb you genuinely cover. A plumber with six services across four areas needs roughly fourteen real pages, not five. That structure decides whether one search or a thousand searches can find you, because Google sends every query to the most specific matching page, and a page that does not exist cannot rank.

The non-negotiables

Page Its one job Make-or-break detail
Home Pass the 5-second test: what, where, why you Call button + proof above the fold
About Put a face on the business Real photos beat mission statements
Contact Convert intent into a call Short form, tappable number, hours, area
Proof Reviews, case studies, galleries Named reviews + real jobs (which format when)

The rankers: one page per service

Google sends each search to the most specific page that answers it, so “hot water systems” and “blocked drains” need their own pages, not bullet points on a shared list. Each service page needs its own real content: what the job involves, photos of yours, the questions customers ask, and a call to action. This is the single structure decision behind clients like Cairns Auto Works ranking for 1,751 terms: there is a right page for every search.

The area pages (done honestly)

One page per suburb or region you genuinely service, with genuinely different content: jobs you have done there, travel times, local specifics. What no longer works: one page copy-pasted twelve times with the suburb swapped. Since the recent core updates that thin-duplicate pattern is ignored at best. The right way is covered in suburb SEO done right.

Worth adding when they earn it

  • A blog, if it answers real customer questions (you are reading ours). It builds the topical authority the money pages lean on.
  • FAQ page, harvest the questions you answer on the phone every week.
  • A calculator or instant quote tool, when the trade suits it. The bathroom calculator we built for MYBUILD became their best lead source. (Ours: the instant quote builder.)

Pages that waste your money

A “Gallery” dump with 90 unlabelled photos (fold the best into service pages and case studies where they sell), a “Testimonials” page nobody visits (put reviews where decisions happen), and empty legal boilerplate pages generated by a template. Every page should either rank, convert, or build trust. If it does none, it is decoration.

How many pages is that in practice?

A solo tradie with four services and five suburbs lands around 13-15 pages. That maps to our Premium tier; the maths and pricing are in the cost guide and the wider structure thinking in web design for tradies.

Start with the audit, not the build: list every service you offer and every suburb you genuinely work, then check whether each one has a page. The gaps in that list are searches happening right now without you in them, and closing them one page at a time, real content each, is the whole job.
