Web Design for Tradies: What a Site That Wins Work Actually Looks Like

The difference between a tradie website that books jobs and one that just exists: the exact pages, the proof, the speed, and the phone-first details, shown with real Cairns examples.

Run this test on your current site: can a stranger on a phone work out what you do, where you do it, and how to call you, in under ten seconds? That test is the entire discipline. A tradie website has one job, turning a local search into a phone call, and everything else on the page is either helping that job or decorating around it.

The anatomy of a job-winning tradie site

Element Job it does Where people get it wrong
Click-to-call header Captures the ready-to-book visitor instantly Number buried on a contact page
Proof above the fold Reviews + real photos answer “can I trust them” Stock photos of models in hard hats
A page per service Ranks for each service search One “Services” page listing everything
Area pages Ranks beyond your own suburb Missing entirely, or copy-pasted junk
Case studies Sells the quality before you quote A dusty gallery with no context
Fast, phone-first build Keeps people + pleases Google Page-builder bloat, 6-second loads

The full page-by-page breakdown lives in what pages a tradie website needs.

Phone-first is not optional

Most of your visitors are on a phone, often standing on the job that made them search. Design for the thumb: a call button that is always visible, forms with four fields not fourteen, and text readable without pinching. We covered the details in click-to-call and mobile UX.

Proof is the product

People do not buy websites, they buy confidence in a stranger with tools. The strongest sellers are real job photos, named Google reviews and proper case studies. Look at how MYBUILD Group’s site does it: the business splits into Commercial, Residential and Bathrooms, and each division shows its own projects, so a school principal sees schools and a homeowner sees bathrooms. That structure, proof matched to the visitor, is worth more than any slogan.

Speed sells (and Google agrees)

Every extra second of load time costs you visitors, and Google measures it. This is why we hand-code instead of stacking page-builder plugins: our builds score in the 90s on PageSpeed. Test any site yourself at PageSpeed Insights, then test one of ours. The technical why, in plain English: website speed explained.

Features that earn their keep

Some extras genuinely pay: instant quote calculators (MYBUILD’s bathroom calculator became their best lead source), before/after sliders for anyone doing renovations or detailing, and booking links for service trades. Extras that rarely pay: sliders full of stock photos, autoplay music (still out there), and chat widgets nobody staffs.

What it costs and how long it takes

Custom tradie builds run $1,499 to $4,999 with us (full market comparison in the cost guide) and take 2-6 weeks. The result should be a site you own outright, that ranks, and that you never have to think about, which is what Hosting & Care is for afterwards.
