A calm, gallery-like site for a Brisbane print and paper studio that runs workshops, hires out equipment, mentors artists and opens its doors for events.
A studio wearing many hats
Art from the Urban Wilderness is a print and paper studio at Hive Studios in Banyo, north Brisbane, founded by artist Sandra Pearce and run as a purpose-not-profit social enterprise. One address quietly does four or five jobs: hands-on printmaking workshops, hourly studio and equipment access, one-to-one mentoring and venue hire. The challenge was a site calm enough to feel like the studio itself, yet clear enough to send a curious beginner and a deadline-chasing professional to completely different next steps. The build answers with a restrained, gallery-like layout and a purpose-built enquiry path for each service.
What we built
- ✓A gallery-calm palette. The site leans on a pale, minimalist white canvas so the work carries the page, opening with a six-image rotating hero carousel of studio life and a gallery of handmade paper, artist books and leaf studies.
- ✓An enquiry path per service. Rather than one generic form, each offering gets its own tailored enquiry. The Studio Access form asks what assistance is needed, while the main contact form captures a preferred contact method by phone or email and promises a reply within 48 hours.
- ✓The whole studio, laid bare. The Studio Access page inventories the real kit, naming etching presses like the Hilldav and Abig, a Hollander beater, a hydraulic press and mould sizes from A5 to A2, inside expandable plus-sign galleries so serious artists know exactly what they can book.
- ✓Built to be found and trusted. Detailed directions by car off the Gateway Motorway and by train to Banyo, an embedded studio video tour, a newsletter signup and a reconciliation acknowledgement in the footer do the practical work of getting people through the door.
