How Much Does SEO Cost in Australia? Honest 2026 Numbers

The price question everyone dances around, answered with real numbers: what each budget level actually buys, where the money goes, and how to spot the packages that buy nothing at all.

Every price on this page is one agencies usually will not publish. Proper SEO in Australia runs $1,000 to $5,000 a month for a local business, with a regional market like Cairns at the lower end and capital-city or national campaigns at the top. Below about $500 a month the arithmetic of skilled hours stops working, and what you are actually buying is a monthly PDF.

What each budget actually buys

Monthly spend What you typically get Honest verdict
$99-$300 Automated reports, directory blasts, maybe a plugin install Buys nothing. Often does harm.
$500-$750 Light on-page work, slow content trickle Progress measured in years
$1,000-$2,500 Real campaign: content, profile, links, weekly work The sweet spot for local (this is our bracket)
$3,000-$5,000+ Aggressive content + authority building For competitive metros and national plays

Where the money actually goes

A real $1,000-$2,500 month is hours, not magic: keyword and competitor work, writing and building service or suburb pages, Google Business Profile management, review systems, local link outreach, technical fixes, and reporting a human wrote. If an agency cannot tell you which of those they did last month, you are buying the report, not the work.

What we charge, specifically

Our plans are public: $1,000, $1,500 or $2,500 a month ex GST, no setup fees, no lock-in, cancel monthly. For businesses not ready for that, TradeProof at $399 a month turns every finished job into a ranking page, a genuine on-ramp rather than a cut-down campaign. And if you only need leads for a short push, Google Ads management is $500 a month plus your ad budget.

How to think about ROI (the only maths that matters)

Compare the monthly cost against the value of one extra job, not against zero. Example with our own client data: Cairns Auto Works takes 300+ leads a month from search. You do not need 300. If your average job is $600 and SEO lands you just five extra jobs a month, that is $3,000 a month of new work against a $1,000-$1,500 spend, and unlike ads, the asset keeps compounding. The honest caveat: those numbers take months to arrive, which is exactly why we published the realistic timeline.

The red flags that predict wasted money

  • Guaranteed #1 rankings. Google itself says nobody can promise this.
  • $99 packages. The maths of paying a skilled human does not work at $99.
  • Lock-in contracts. Confidence does not need a 24-month cage.
  • No named clients you can check. Every claim on this site has a name and a live search you can run.
  • Jargon walls. If they cannot explain it plainly, they are hiding either the method or the absence of one. More in choosing an SEO agency.
